Merrill Edelstein: Art viewing as hot as temperature

It’s summer, and I bet everyone is looking for ways to escape the heat. I am, too.

Staying home and watching TV gets old and finding interesting places to explore can be challenging. In Surprise, you don’t have to look very far. 

We have three amazing art galleries with free admission. You can spend all day looking at beautiful artwork on display in every genre possible. Then you find might something that really catches your eye each gallery has wonderful retail areas.

Now that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day have passed, it’s time for us to buy something special for ourselves. Whether you prefer jewelry, wearable art, sculpture, watercolors, or even greeting cards you are sure to find that one special item that speaks to you.

Now that more and more people are being vaccinated, COVID-19 restrictions are being relaxed, so it’s a perfect time to get back out with friends and discover the amazingly talented artists we have right here in the West Valley.

Here’s a heads up for our Arts HQ patrons who love the Lunchtime Theater series: We’ll be back in December. The season will be primarily musical presentations (i.e.the symphony and opera). For specific dates and times check westvalleyarts.org.

Coming up on Friday, July 16 we have our opening night reception for Pressing The Point presented by the Colored Pencil Society. Please join us from 4 to 7 p.m. No reservations are required.

In August, the Peoria Fine Art Association will be at Ground Floor Artists with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7.

Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, back in the ’50s, class trips to art museums were part of every school year. As an adult, I stay pretty close to home and enjoy the cultural offerings we have here. I invite you to come experience these for yourselves.
