Meet Your Neighbor: Robert 'Bob' Bove

Where do you live? Arizona Traditions in Surprise.

When and why did you move here? Retired and came down in late 2008 to care for my mother.

What do you like most about living here? Winter weather is the best here in Surprise.

What was your career field and favorite job or favorite aspect of a job? I was an environmental engineer specializing in water treatment projects. Municipal and industrial. Clean water will always be a cornerstone of our society.

What clubs/organizations are you involved in? Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America. Safety and Citizenship in the Community/Nation. Spartanburg, S.C. Council, Moose Lodge, OSIA, a deacon for the Presbyterian Church and Pony League baseball coach and foster parent.

What is your favorite charity or volunteer activity and why does it deserve support from others? I currently volunteer with the Friends Of The Surprise Library and the Maricopa County Library (Northwest Regional ranch)

What is your No. 1 suggestion to new residents looking for ways to get involved in their community? Look for activities in the newspaper and online that you would enjoy participating in.

What one thing would you like to see changed in Surprise? Improve the timing of a few stop lights during rush hour on Bell Road.

Do family members live nearby, and how large is your family? My aunt, uncle, sister and several cousins live close by. My long-term girlfriend, Alfie, lives in New River.

What has been your favorite vacation or family vacation spot? Florida Keys. (The Mid Keys are the best.)

Which people you have met or read about are an inspiration to you? Dr. Carl Sagan and Dr. Isaac Asimov. Both have written magnificent books about the evolution of human society as related to science and technology. Both their fiction and nonfiction works provide colorful and accurate data that provide food for thought on the future of humanity.
