Letters: Sanders has been active on City Council

Posted

I own and operate Levy Counseling and Life Coaching and have lived in Surprise for over a decade.

In that time, I have had the opportunity to vote for and observe the people elected to our city council. Although I have attempted to discuss various ideas concerning small business and social issues with other council members, it was David Sanders who sat down and listened to my concerns.

My attempt to bring stronger solutions to mental health issues in Surprise was not only heard by Councilman Sanders, but he went beyond listening to put me in touch with several key people who have since been pivotal to addressing these issues.

It has been exciting to speak with others who share my concerns and hopes for social mental resources for our city, but that networking would have been much more difficult to obtain without Mr. Sanders’ knowledge of resources available and those working to make positive changes. I am very eager to begin working with the Surprise Resource Center as soon as we are safe to do so.

In February, our HOA held the annual Party in the Park for members. Councilman Sanders came to the party, not to campaign or call attention to himself, but to serve. He rolled up his sleeves and flipped burgers and hot dogs for the people in his community.

It is unlikely many people knew that he was a councilman as he did not announce it, but it meant a lot to me to see him display servant leadership in such a humble fashion.

Shortly after the HOA party, the city was faced with the COVID-19 crisis. I watched the concern grow and the desire to do what was best become paramount for not only Councilman Sanders, but for the entire city government. I am proud of the work they have done to keep us safe and provide the information needed.

Although I have not been able to witness each council member extensively in this crisis, because they are not in my district, I have been able to observe the tireless endeavors of Mr. Sanders. There have been several times I have had questions about what was happening and was able to receive answers, which was not the case in much of the state of Arizona.

Councilman Sanders has revealed a strong leadership capability while remaining an admirable example to his wife and children, even in the most difficult of circumstances.

He is steady, calm and honest; a very rare quality in a time when saying and doing anything to get elected, and/or remain in office, is the norm.

I am honored to have Councilman Sanders as my representative for the city of Surprise District 5, and I hope you will support him with your vote this August.
