Letters: NY governor doesn’t deserve praise for COVID

Posted

A recent letter writer critized Surprise Mayor Skip Hall and Councilman David Sanders for not staying safe, thereby testing positive for the COVID-19. This is her opinion and she is entitled to it.

However, then she goes on to praise New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo who “succeeded in saving countless lives in New York.” Excuse me, but I seem to remember reading that 11,000 to 12,000 people in nursing homes and assisted living facilities in New York died of the virus. This was one-half of all the deaths statewide.

This occurred because Gov. Cuomo’s Department of Health mandated that nursing homes had to accept COVID patients and barred requiring any COVID tests for admission.

In my opinion, Gov. Cuomo does not deserve any praise, and his decision which killed so many senior and elderly people should be investigated.
