District 5

Letters: My support is with Sanders in Districrt 5 race

Posted

I’ve lived in Surprise for almost 11 years now, having moved from Encinitas, California. I now call Surprise Farms home, and the experience has been very rewarding.

One of my move’s highlights has been meeting Dave Sanders, our current council member representing District 5.  As a volunteer, I’m lucky to be active in our city. Happily, I see Dave being engaged in many of the city’s projects.

He is a thoughtful, caring man who listens, encourages feedback from the residents and responds to the needs of his constituents.

Recently, we had lunch to talk about my concerns and I don’t even live in D5.  Dave holds meet and greets, does live posts on Facebook, supports the arts, and  participated in the most recent HOA academy — just to mention a few. For me, art in Surprise is extremely important, and Dave has come to our receptions on opening night at Arts HQ.

One of the most important qualities of a public servant is their ability to respond to questions, suggestions and criticisms: Dave has those qualities. Every phone call, email or text is answered in a timely manner with respect and a willingness to find solutions to the challenges presented to him.

Dave Sanders is eminently qualified to get and keep the city on track, thanks to his banking and financial analysis background. He was appointed to the council in January 2019, and with an election coming up, I would vote for him without hesitation if I lived in his district.

I encourage you to seek him out and you will find the wonderful man I met at events around the city. He cares about Surprise and is only interested in doing what’s right and best for our community.

I look forward to seeing him again once this health crisis has past and we can all get back to enjoying the amenities that our great city offers. I’m eager to attend future council meetings and see how our representatives make Surprise such a great place to live.
