Letters: Many reasons to vote ‘yes’ for override

Posted

As many know, I am very proud of the education I received and I am a proud Dysart alumnus. The Dysart override is a continuation of property tax already in place.

For the majority of El Mirage homeowners, this is a pennies-on-the-dollar investment in our children. The continuation of the override allows DUSD to fund programs, teachers, and services that our every-day working families need.

As a result of the COVID pandemic, schools have been strong in adjusting to the needs of our children. The schools provide much needed support to our families supplying technology, worksheets, even tutoring when needed. Children could count on breakfast and lunch every day which is critical for low-income families.

While this school year may look different, we must invest in our schools to ensure when allowed back in person, teachers and students have what they need.

El Mirage families depend on full-day kindergarten and highly qualified teachers who can individualize learning. Investing in our schools maintains consistent growth in our property values and encourages businesses to come to the area creating jobs for residents and a brighter future for El Mirage.

Join me in voting “yes” for Dysart.

Editor’s Note: Ms. Hermosillo is the mayor of El Mirage.
