Letters: Hastings has devoted life to serving Surprise

Posted

I have had the pleasure of knowing Jack Hastings for the 15 years he has been living here. Over that time, I have never seen someone so devoted to public service.

His first job was working as a lifeguard for the city of Surprise. He attended high school in Surprise, and now teaches civics/government at the school he attended.

In Kingswood Parke, residents had been having issues with the streetlights for over a year. They had been going back and forth with the city constantly, but it felt like nothing was getting done.

When Jack was first alerted of the issue he went out at midnight two nights in a row to report all of the missing outages, and within a month, they were all repaired by APS.

Jack is also endorsed by police and supports public safety and keeping our city safe as his No. 1 issue. He supports our brave police officers and firefighters and wants to help supply them with the necessary resources to keep our continue their great work in our city.

In downtown Surprise, Jack wants to see more built by cutting regulations to attract more businesses like finer restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.

We need more of those business, and less fast food and storage facilities. When my husband and I thought about all of the local restaurants, we couldn’t think of any considered “fine dining.” If we want to have a fancy date night, we have to go to another city to make that happen.

This is the type of leadership we need in Surprise. A lot of politicians are all talk and no action, but Jack Hastings is a breath of fresh air and is the clear choice for Surprise City Council District 5.

I hope you join me in voting for him this summer.
