Letters: Article captured mood of week in city perfectly

Posted

I’m writing to you regarding the excellent front page article of the Surprise Independent, “Saving Surprise from all Sides” [June 10].

It is the most objective sounding and tactfully written article I have read in the news (any news) for a long time. I liked the kind way the goals of the three groups were described. The article was not only informative of a sequence of events in Surprise that i didn’t know about but it was a living example of nonpartisan news reporting.

After I read that article, I felt better than ever that we oved to Surprise. I love that there are people in Surprise who take action in what they believe in, whether it is peaceful protest, prayers to support the police, or vigilantes to help deter senseless destruction of property and attacks on people. I am pleased that our city leaders learned from the fate of other cities and ade preparations to protect Surprise instead of being passive.

I’m a newcomer to Surprise, but you don’t have to be born here to thin that it is the most beautiful and wonderful place to live. I’m happy that resident, Matthew Elliott, is of the mind set, “ ... we’re not going to let somebody come in and destroy this place.”

I’m happy that our hometown newspaper is nonpartisan. Thank you for this excellent article.
