Lennar expanding 'multigenerational' home concept around Phoenix area
National homebuilder has seen interest in latest product

Lennar Corp. is expanding its use of a new "multigenerational" home concept in the Valley after meeting with a good response.
With recent groundbreakings of its Next Gen in Gold Canyon and Buckeye and a planned move into Surprise, the Florida-based Lennar is rolling out the homes in the fast-growing Phoenix market.
"We are unaware of anywhere else in the country where this home style is being built,’ said Alan Jones, Division President of Lennar. ‘With the realities of home-schooling, working from home and having grandparents living in the family residence now, coupled with the explosion in popularity of RVs, this project was definitely accelerated due to what’s happening in the world today."
With a plan accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic, Lennar rolled out the homes that feature a home within a home featuring a separate suite with living area with kitchen, bedroom and bath, and garage. In some cases, it comes with an RV garage.
Homes available in the models without RV garages in Buckeye's Aorroy Seco development run $450,000 and higher. Those with the larger garages start near $470,000.
Those same homes are pricier in East Valley developments, with prices for the same models in Mesa running about $548,000 to start without the RV garage.
Lennar officials said the company sold more of its Next Gen models than any other home in 2020 at more than 500 models in the Phoenix area. It accounted for about 25% of the company's Valley sales.
