Census

U.S. Census Bureau workers are visiting homes to interview households that have not responded to the Census. Census interviews should take approximately 10 minutes, and all Census workers have been provided with personal protective equipment and have been trained to practice physical distancing. All Census workers will also have official I.D. badges that will include their name, a photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark and expiration date. They will never ask for social security numbers, bank information, or donations or credit card information. If you suspect fraud, please call 800-923-8282 to speak with a local Census Bureau representative.

Responding to the Census is critical to ensuring that Surprise receives an appropriate share of the $675 billion given to states annually, and in turn, our community. The Census also helps with planning for critical infrastructure in our community and determines our congressional representation and local political boundaries. Please note, that by law, the U.S. Census Bureau is required to protect your information and is not permitted to publicly release your responses in a way that could identify you.

Development in District 6

Amazon is coming to Surprise! The 150,000-square-foot building will be located in the Surprise Railplex, just south of the entertainment center near Uptown Alley on Litchfield Road. This new operation will serve the northwest Greater Phoenix market, and is anticipated to bring 300 new jobs. Amazon plans to open the building in 2021.

Roadwork is scheduled to begin on Greenway Road from Sarival Avenue to Cotton Lane in September. The work is expected to continue until early 2021, and will widen the road to four lanes of travel, and add a traffic signal at the Greenway Road and Northwest Road Parkway intersection. You may notice some utility work taking place on the roadway in advance of the project.
