Ex-big leaguer will run Paradise Honors baseball program

Paradise Honors High School announced James Lofton as its new full-time baseball coach Feb. 10.
Lofton joined the Panthers’ staff last year as the head coach of the middle school team and as a hitting coach for the high school varsity team. In his time there he has developed very good relationships with administrators, parents and student athletes, athletic director Ben Clark stated.
Lofton brings experience from a 14-year minor league baseball career, and some from the big leagues, as he played with the Boston Red Sox in 2001.
When coach Charles Summers resigned in the fall, Paradise Honors immediately moved Lofton into the interim role so the team had structure and could continue to practice and compete in the fall and winter leagues.
Lofton will oversee the charter school district’s entire baseball program from grades six to 12. This gives him the ability to help young players develop and improve.
“His experience at the major league level both playing and coaching make him a perfect fit for our program. He has an amazing staff around him and we can not wait to see our program grow and flourish under his guidance,” Clark stated in a news release.
