DUSD to start school year remotely Aug. 4

In-person attendance option will open when allowable

Posted

School will begin remotely Tuesday, Aug. 4 for all students currently attending school in the Dysart Unified School District.

And for families who select to attend through the in-person option, it will also be a choice when it is allowable.

On June 29, Gov. Doug Ducey delayed the state of in-person classes statewide, but schools are allowed to start online.

In a district news release, the organization expects to finalize class options and release specific details regarding each option and health and safety measures that will be implemented Monday July 6.

According to the release, parents will select the option that best fits the needs of their student and families by a specific date so the district can appropriately plan for staffing needs.

DUSD has had the iSchool program in place for high schoolers since 2012. It’s now available to all grades starting this year.

“It’s a huge benefit to us as we strive to address the many challenges of educating students at this time,” DUSD spokeswoman Renee Ryon said. “We are transitioning the iSchool program to serve our elementary students as well this year, as many parents have indicated a preference for online school during the pandemic. It has been highly successful at the high school level.”

iSchool has grown tremendously for the district and serves more than 5,000 students for various reasons including to get ahead, catch up or add flexibility to the student’s schedule.

According to Ms. Ryon, all iSchool teachers are fully-certified, Dysart teachers. They are hired specifically to teach online and receive training for teaching courses through the online platform, called Schoology.

According to the July 1 news release, DUSD will continue implementing enhanced health, safety and cleaning measures, evaluating protocols and processes and providing additional training for staff.

The district will continue to follow the COVID-19 situation and are in close communication with state, health and education agencies, taking direction in order to ensure a safe, yet productive and flexible school experience for all students.
