Why should voters trust you to serve?

I have been serving the residents of Surprise as a volunteer for the past 12 years. I have always been open and transparent in my actions. I coached tee-ball for nine years, was an official score keeper for city-hosted baseball tournaments for 10 years, organizing committee member for Relay for Life four years and chair two years, lifetime member and board member for a non-profit charitable organization for the last 10 years and president for eight years.

Rank your top three issues for Surprise voters:

  1. Safety within the city for our residents

  2. Controlled development

  3. Promoting a positive business environment

How do you keep a balanced budget with the uncertainties of COVID-19?

Evaluating with the city staff the needs versus the wants of the community. Carefully utilize the $16 million that have been designated from the AZ CARES fund to assist the city to ensure essential services are maintained.

How will Surprise stay as a tourist destination in a time of COVID-19?

The Tourism Department is working with Major League Baseball and others to promote local events that will bring in tourists. Work with Surprise hotels, merchants and restaurants to accommodate appropriate health safety measures.

What is the top issue facing your district specifically?

District 2 members are concerned with their safely and health issues. More information is needed about the impact of COVID-19 is having on local businesses is needed to keep the community informed. More information on testing and what restaurants are open for food service.

What is Surprise’s biggest recent missed opportunity?

The Economic Development staff in the city works, based on annual community surveys, to meet the needs of our residents. Opportunities may have been delayed but not missed while they work with wanted businesses and overcome any challenges.

What is Surprise’s single biggest need?

The city needs to look into how more affordable housing can be made available within the city limits. The example of the new housing in the Old Town Center is a great example of public and private partnerships to accomplish the new 100 resident locations.

What’s the best thing about Surprise?

The people of Surprise are the best thing. They work together helping each other in times of need. An example, before the most recent virus issues, there was a fire that damaged peoples homes leaving them without clothing, furniture etc. The community worked together to donate items needed by the families. Things were left anonymously in a central location so that they could be organized and delivered. This is the spirit of Surprise.
