Out of the 8,787 ballots cast in unofficial results posted by the Maricopa County Recorders Office, Ms. Cline received 64% of the vote to easily outdistance Wendell Fountain, who picked up the other 36%.

Ms. Cline is poised to replace Nancy Hayden in January. Ms. Hayden decided not to run for reelection.

All results are preliminary until all of the ballots dropped off at City Hall on Election Day and all provisional ballots are counted.

The Maricopa County Elections Department is expected to release a final ballot tally by Monday, Aug. 24.
