The Surprise Arts and Cultural Advisory Commission voted to spend up to $6,000 on repairs and restoration to the “We are the Past, Present, and Future of Surprise” mural at Bicentennial Park, 16705 N. Nash St.
Work on the project was targeted three years ago when the commission approved a list of art pieces across the city that needed maintenance.
The mural is on the restroom of the Original Town Site park. It has fading and peeling paint.
Connie Whitlock of WHAM Arts Organization will lead the restoration, which will be joined by Surprise Young Life. Ms. Whitlock told the commission at its March meeting the mural and pillars need touching up and the area needs to be sealed.
She told the commission she hopes to have the project done in April or early May. If not done by then, she said completion would be pushed back to mid-fall.
