The West Valley Arts Council, 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza, Surprise, in partnership with Estrella Mountain Community College, 3000 N. Dysart Road, Avondale, is seeking students to participant in Gallery 37, an award-winning youth arts apprenticeship program.

West Valley students, between the ages of 15 and 18, with an interest in the arts, will work with a professional master artist to design, create and install a permanent public art piece in the West Valley. Under the leadership of Ryan Williams, students will be guided and supported through each stage of the project. Selected students will receive free college credits and a stipend for their participation.

Gallery 37 began in Chicago as a city beautification project of Block 37 that included the creation of a summer arts camp designed to revitalize the immediate community while providing job training and arts education to Chicago’s youth. Since 1991, Gallery 37 has expanded to a nationwide program to include more than 24 U.S. cities as well as the UK and Australia.

The 2020 Gallery 37 project will be installed in City of Avondale’s Festival Fields Park, 101 E. Lower Buckeye Road. After undergoing a massive renovation, the newly re-opened park includes splash pads, a dog park, skate park and more.

West Valley Arts Council will be accepting applications until 5 p.m. Friday, March 20. Those interested can apply by visiting westvalleyarts.org/arts-education/gallery-37/. A digital or physical form can be completed and submitted.

Since 2001, more than 250 Valley students have participated in Gallery 37. Apprentices hail from all over the Valley including Phoenix, Chandler, Glendale, Peoria, Goodyear, Avondale, Buckeye, El Mirage, Waddell, Surprise, Tonopah and Litchfield Park.
