Women4Women

The number of homeless and low-income women increases each year in our community. Many require the use of feminine hygiene products each month, the cost of which is not covered by SNAP (food stamps) and too expensive for many to afford. Women4Women believes these items should be available to those who need them; helping homeless and low-income women maintain their dignity, self-respect, and health. 20 women from a local chapter of Women4Women came together to help package feminine hygiene products at WHAM on September 13. In one hour, the team put together over 100 bags! These items are distributed through Surprise Resource Center, the Surprise Police Department and Crisis Support teams.

Fire Station 308

Construction is complete on Fire Station 308, located on the south side of Cactus Road, east of Litchfield Road, and the station is operational today. Fire Station 308 is approximately 16,000 square feet with four bays for fire apparatus. It houses an Engine Company and Hazardous Materials Response Team – an essential component due to the station's proximity to the city's industrial district. The station is designed to provide training specific to responses to hazardous materials emergencies and has room for a future ambulance.
