AAUW members tour Heard Museum

Members of the American Association of University Women, Northwest Valley, Arizona Adventures Special Interest Group ventured to the Heard Museum, 2301 N. Central Ave., April 22. A docent led a tour of the museum and those attending learned about the Hopi, Navajo and Apache Indian tribes.
There were many permanent exhibits, such as jewelry and art and works of past Native American artists to better understand their culture and history. Lunch was at the Courtyard Cafe, which featured southwest-inspired cuisine.
The American Association of University Women, or AAUW, promotes equity and education for women and girls. Since its founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day, educational, social, economic and political.
AAUW advances gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy and provides the opportunity to join a circle of women intent upon breaking through educational and economic barriers and enabling women and girls to succeed in their community and personal lives.
Membership is open to anyone holding an associate’s degree, bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
