Wide variety of women take character down memory lane

For April, Stage Left Productions, 11340 W. Bell Road, Suite 105, is presenting “Just the Ticket.” Performances are Wednesday through Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons April 7 through 25.

Susan, 60, decides to celebrate her birthday by repeating a journey to Australia she made with a group of friends when she was 20.

This time she’s traveling alone — carrying the same hopes and dreams, but with 40 years of extra baggage. Endlessly chatty, accident-prone, and often looking as if she’s been dragged through a hedge backwards, Susan is undoubtedly colorful.

Her wit, charm, chaos, and hint of sadness have given her a unique outlook on life — and make her an unforgettable character.

A twist in the performance: The character is played by six different leading ladies in 12 short scenes.

First up is Paula McKenny, a Sun City Grand Drama Club and Ghostlight Veteran, whose favorite roles include Candy Apples in “Drop Dead” (for which she earned an ariZoni nomination), Julia Gibbs in “Our Town,” Bertha in “Bloody Mary Christmas,” and Stephanie in “You’ve Got Hate Mail.”

Suze St. John holds a BFA in fine arts from the University of Arizona. Her most recent stage roles include Meg in “A Lie of the Mind” at Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival, Woman A in “Three Tall Women” at iTheater Collaborative, and Mrs. Claus in “The Truth about Santa” at BlkBoxPhx.

Cynthia Elek holds a Master’s Degree in Opera Performance from the University of Maryland.

Favorite local roles include Miss Andrew in “Mary Poppins” at Don Bluth Front Row Center, Fraulein Schneider in “Cabaret” at Theater Artists Studio, and Heidi in “Follies” at Theater Works.

Mary Tympany has wide theatrical experience. Apart from acting, she has written and directed for the disabled, been a member of competitive improve teams, written and produced language training films, dubbed cartoon commercials and performed in regional commercials.

Cindy Miesse performed with Stage Left in its earlier years, performing in “Things My Mother Taught Me,” “Steel Magnolias,” and “Play On.” Favorites elsewhere include “Arsenic and Old Lace,” “12 Angry Jurors,” “Mom’s Gift,” and “The Dinner Party.”

Susan Webster is also a veteran of Stage Left. She has appeared as Libby Ruth in “Always a Bridesmaid,” Phyllis in “Play On,” and Big Mama in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” Elsewhere she has played Oiuser in “Steel Magnolias,” Myra in “A bad Year for Tomatoes,” and Lexie in “Dixie Swim Club.”

Audiences are reminded that seats are extremely limited, and must be purchased in advance.

The outside doors to the theater will not be opened until the house is open. Each patron will be escorted directly to their seat without lingering in the lobby. Masks must be worn throughout the performance.

Tickets may be purchased online at tickets@stageleftaz..com. They may also be obtained by phone from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at 623-285-6321.
