Ruth Welscott has been a Camera Guild member for 12 years and has served as a board member, a vice president and has chaired several committees. In addition, she has volunteered one morning per week for 12 years with the Sun City Visitor Center, recently served on the Ad Hoc Committee for the Mountain View Recreation Center and is receiving training with the Sun City Posse where she will serve as a dispatcher. Ms. Welscott also volunteers in her church library and serves as a Stephen’s Minister.
Ms. Welscott joined the Camera Guild to pursue her interest in photography and to meet new friends with similar interests. She feels that the exceptional thing about the Guild is that all skill levels are welcome and those with more advanced skills are willing to help those who are looking for more skill development. She loves attending the Phonography class each year because it is fun and everyone likes to improve their skills to get and process those perfect impromptu pictures.
Ms. Welscott’s interest in photography began after she graduated from college with a secondary teaching certificate. She taught English at a mission school in Kentucky and created slide shows to share with supporting churches when promoting the school. She continued using her photography skills to share her adventures while teaching conversational English to medical students in Taiwan.
Ms. Welscott returned to college and earned her MA degree in counseling and worked as a counselor in Albuquerque, NM. After retirement she and a friend traveled coast to coast in a motorhome for several years, which also created numerous photography opportunities.
