The Sportsman’s Club of SCW will be hosting a general meeting 1 p.m. Monday, March 16 at Palm Ridge Recreation Center, 13800 W. Deer Valley Dr., Sun City West.

The new year has started with new officers for the club. Delilah George is the president, Ron Dodson is vice president, Bill Billinghurst is secretary, and Becky Chase remains as treasurer.

Residents are invited to participate in activities designed to make one feel more connected to Sun City West and Arizona and learn about area history, geology, geography, flora and fauna. These activities are also a way to help maintain the body and brain health.

The Big Wheels group has a schedule of “rides.” Clay target shooting meets every Thursday. Target shooting will meet the second and fourth Wednesdays each month. Hikes are scheduled weekly.

The speaker at this month’s meeting will be Capt. Myron Finegold, Sheriff’s Posse of Sun City West commander. He will inform the audience about the efforts Posse volunteers use to improve the safety of Sun City West residents, as well as the challenges to continue this 40-year-old endeavor.

Capt. Finegold will also relate some of his experiences at work in the World Trade Center North Tower on Sept. 11, 2001, and for the following long days.
