“Death, Dismay and Rose,” the sixth cozy mystery novel in local author J.C. Eaton’s “Wine Trail Mysteries,” is set for release Sept. 29. The novel takes place at the fictitious Two Witches Winery in Penn Yan, New York, on Seneca Lake.

When screenwriter turned temporary winery manager Norrie Ellington discovers a full moon set to appear on the summer solstice, she tries to dismiss it. After all, the old folktale of someone being smothered to death is only a myth. But when local historical society fussbudget Vance Wexler is found suffocated to death that night, all eyes are on Norrie and her Two Witches Winery. The curse emanated on their hill even if it began centuries ago.

To make matters worse, Norrie’s entomologist friend, Alex Bollinger, is accused of smothering Vance to death so as to prevent him from interfering with a crane fly field study on Seneca Lake where Vance is hunting for arrowheads. Norrie cannot afford to waste a second to catch the flesh and blood killer behind Vance’s death. To save Alex and the reputation of her winery, Norrie must dig deep into the past and squelch that curse for good.

Authors Ann I. Goldfarb and James E. Clapp, writing as J.C. Eaton, are former residents of Penn Yan and Geneva who now reside in Sun City West. Ms. Goldfarb was the middle school principal in Geneva and the assistant principal at Penn Yan Academy while Mr. Clapp was the tasting room manager at Fox Run Vineyards. In addition to this series, they pen the Sophie Kimball Mysteries, set in Sun City West and surrounding areas.

The book is published by Beyond the Page Publishing and is available in ebook and trade paperback from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Bookbub, iTunes and independent booksellers.

The couple’s debut cozy mystery, “Booked 4 Murder,” in the Sophie Kimball Mysteries (Kensington), took first place in the New Mexico-Arizona Book Awards in the cozy mystery category.
