Despite the pandemic, new homeowners are continuing to move in and call Sun City West home.

Recreation Centers of Sun City West General Manager Bill Schwind said on the Rec Center Show with Gary Cohen on 103.1 KSCW Sept. 29 membership staff has been busy welcoming new owners and gaining some intel that will assist in master planning.

“We still have between 100-105 new owner per month, which is terrific and when they come in and get signed up our membership staff are doing inquiries,” he said. “Some responses are telling about the facilities themselves, golf courses, recreation centers and clubs. It’s really coming down to word of mouth and knowing people who live here and having the opportunity to see it and once you see it and participate in it, you are sold.”

Mr. Schwind also mentioned the rise in golf play, saying it is getting into prime golf season. After speaking with RCSCW Environmental Services Manager Todd Patty he learned the crew is throwing more than 300,000 pounds of seed onto the courses.

“We should start seeing germination pretty quick and things turning green,” he added.

Also on the Rec Center Show, RCSCW Chief Financial Officer Pete Finelli updated the community, saying RCSCW staff are evaluating the capital needs of the association.

“As we speak, we are revising policies CR-13, which is a document where clubs submit for minor things or major capital requests and we are finding language within there that is not always clear as to the important components of whether it is a want or need. How do you fund those and is it at the whim of the governing board or by policy. And the chartered clubs committee is working hard to refine that document,” Mr. Finelli said.

He added during the budget season the association staff gets requests by clubs and there are proposed changes to the budget timeline that is currently getting worked through and will be presented at an upcoming Budget and Finance Committee meeting.

“In everybody’s interest for clarity, we strive to make policies clear and transparent as well,” he explained.

With the new governing board up and running, Mr. Cohen asked about the relationship between staff and the board. Mr. Schwind said the association has great bylaws and a great organization, but when it comes to policy at times there can be a little lack of clarity.

“We are trying to firm it up and be transparent, as Mr. Finelli stated,” he said.

Mr. Schwind said RCSCW governing board President George Kuchtyak is currently in his third and final year on the board and is supportive of what the association officials are doing and understands it is all about the people that live in Sun City West and he supports staff working here everyday, making the organization as good as it can be.
