Matt Deller of Sun City, founding director of Sounds of the Southwest Singers, a nonprofit all-volunteer community choir, is a finalist for the national 2020 Oticon Focus on People Awards, which recognize outstanding individuals with hearing loss.
To win the award, he must earn the most votes by Nov. 16.
As a conductor with perfect pitch and profound hearing loss, Mr. Deller brings a unique characteristic to the job as he guides his choir to stages across the globe. He uses this characteristic to demonstrate to the audience and world the great contributions people with hearing loss can make.
The Oticon Focus on People Awards acknowledge those who help show hearing loss does not limit a person’s ability to make a positive difference in their families, communities or the world.
Mr. Deller is one of three finalists in the adult category, which is open to people with hearing loss, ages 18 and older, representing the organization’s most diverse group of achievers.
Nominees in the adult category are evaluated on their professional, volunteer, cultural and civic endeavors. This year’s finalists share a passion to make the world a better place, not only for people with hearing loss but for everyone.
