With the “stay at home” order in place getting help may seem difficult, but a Surprise church is working with the changing times of the pandemic and bringing supplies to those who are quarantining.

Radiant Community Services, which is an extension of Radiant Church, 15522 W. Paradise Lane, Surprise is partnering with faith-based disaster relief organization Convoy of Hope and the city of Surprise. People in need can drive up for immediate help one time per week 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday from.

A curb-side delivery of food, diapers, wipes, paper towels, toilet paper and other items are available and in the first two days of serving the community, the organization fed 1,200 people.

“We are an outreach church by nature, and we knew we had to do something,” Greg Marquart, Radiant Church lead pastor and Radiant Community Services president/CEO, said.

Mr. Marquart has a connection to Convoy as a former executive director and said the truck dropped off pallets of goods into the Radiant make-shift distribution center. From there the established partnership with St. Mary’s Food Bank through the organization’s food pantry was put to work and other resources from various companies gave the project fuel.

“We are trying to get other organizations involved to buy another truck load, so we are raising $34,000 to get $70,000 retail value worth of supplies,” he said.

Cars are lined up before the start, but it moves quickly as staff from the organization gather information from community members, runners grab the appropriate items and then drivers are directed to another area of the parking lot where items are loaded and they are prayed over before leaving.

For those who can’t leave home, help is one click away on the Radiant Church webpage, radiantchurch.com, click the need help button and continue with the contact information.

“If you need help with transportation, grocery shopping, picking up medication, prayer or even if you have the virus or are quarantined, just let us know,” Mr. Marquart said. “It immediately goes to our care team who will reach out and serve those in need.”

Relief buckets can be dropped direct to people by filling out the same form. The buckets include items such as hand sanitizer, gloves, laundry soap, cleaning supplies and other essentials. The care teams for the organization are also working to help first responders, as well as make and deliver masks to health care facilities.

The organization is mobilizing volunteers having them make buckets from home.

“If you have a need come and get it. If you have supplies come and give,” Mr. Marquart said. “If your cupboards are in need please come and get and if you have some things on your shelves, please give. When we share things together, we can get through it together.”

Donations can be made to either Radiant Church or Radiant Community Services, both of which are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. With the organization considered an essential service, the office is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

The Palm West Community Church in Sun City West has a serving team to run errands and help the community who cannot get out, within recommended CDC guidelines. If someone is in need, call 480-416-4561 or email serving @palmwestchurch.org.
