RCSCW officials donate $10,000 to Stop the Bleed

A big donation made by the Recreation Centers of Sun City West will help Banner Health’s Stop the Bleed and other intervention programs.

After hosting the Sun City West’s BBQ Taste of Paradise Challenge March 7, RCSCW made a donation to Stop the Bleed at Banner Health of $10,000 from ticket sales.

The program is designed to train people to understand what to do when a bleeding emergency occurs, in which some of the RCSCW staff took part.

“We think it is amazing the Rec Centers took advantage of the program and we have since gone back and put in Stop the Bleed kits,” Tamara Eydeler, Banner Health spokeswoman, said. “If there is an emergent situation then the rec centers has the actual equipment we used is available to staff members.”

Ms. Eydeler said the funds will be used to continue to grow the intervention program at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center, 14502 W. Meeker Blvd., to buy equipment and meet the needs of the program and community.

The event was spearheaded by the BBQ Committee, made up of RCSCW Events Manager Kasey Huhta, Michael Reimann, Joelene Piaskowski, Denise Babirak, David Bennett, RCSCW General Services Officer Katy O’Grady, Joel Piaskowski, Jim Jones, Gary Roberts and Ms. Eydeler. Ms. Huhta and staff were recognized, during the June 25 annual meeting, by now RCSCW Governing Board President George Kuchtyak for putting on a successful event and all the work she and staff do for the community.

RCSCW Multimedia Specialist Martin Aguero helped lead the public relations for the barbecue event, along with 25 volunteers including Sun City West residents and staff. The Sun City West Woodworking Club provided all 40 award cutting boards, which were created by Mr. Jones and Mr. Roberts. Zane Hagen, Maricopa County Sheriffs Office community outreach officer, and his team provided assistance to ensure safety at the event.

“Arizona Fire & Medical Authority helped make this all possible with their amazing support led by Deputy Chief Eric Kriwer, Assistant Fire Marshall Thomas O’Donohue and Emergency Manager Kim Campbell, helping with the extraordinary expertise in permits and guidelines,” Ms. Huhta said.

Additionally, Belgard was the presenting sponsor at the event that drew more than 20 sponsors to make the community event possible.
