Vaccinations for individuals aged 75 and older began Jan. 11 and Recreation Centers of Sun City West officials offered facilities for a pod in Sun City West.
Recreation Centers of Sun City West General Manager Bill Schwind was asked about the possibility of a vaccination pod coming to the community by 103.1 KSCW Rec Center Show host Gary Cohen.
“We hope the county takes up our offers as this would be a great asset for the local community of 27,000 plus people rather than being shipped off to get a vaccine somewhere else,” he explained. “We would love to do something to assist.”
Mr. Schwind said General Services Officer Katy O’Grady is actively trying to get a pod in Sun City West and if the county is looking for availability, the association is an option.
Also during the radio show, Mr. Cohen asked Mr. Schwind about the feedback the community was giving regarding the closure of indoor pools and fitness center due to rising COVID-19 numbers.
“By and large we have a lot of support out there and it goes either way. People are tired of this and want to get back to a normal setting,” he said. “There are some frustrated people who would like to see gymnasiums opened and we also have a lot of people thanking us for taking time to consider the health benefits of the community.”
Mr. Schwind said association officials are paying close attention to the numbers and keeping the staff and team productive, while taking care of the membership with many recreation amenities still open and doing well.
“We are not medical workers and with half of our staff living here, they want to be sure to stay safe and we are trying to provide the safest way,” he said
