PORA: The Rejoin Life Campaign

Posted

For the past year, many of us have existed in vast silence and a self-imposed isolation.

Even worse, some of us have lost relationships, loved ones and jobs. The COVID-19 pandemic is a “human size” mouse trap that clamped down on our assumed freedoms. The resulting mental and economic recession has negatively affected many people. Studies show that weight gain, substance abuse, anxiety and depression are on the rise. These modern plagues are occurring in all ages, economic classes and ethnicities.

A few months ago, PORA officials began to contemplate, “How will our community navigate this smoke-filled room that is shrouded in uncertainty?” After some brainstorming, we created the Rejoin Life Campaign. We are slowly and safely rolling out this program through our different services and programs. By the fall of 2021, The Rejoin Life Campaign will encompass PORA’s Education Program, mental health resources, day tours, informational town halls, social events, October’s vendor expo and more.

As one of the leading support organization for Sun City West residents, PORA will champion the return to a semi-normal life.

Again, we will do this with caution and our goal is to produce a happy, healthy, integrated community. The ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu wrote, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Let’s take this first step together and, in turn, change the existing state of affairs.
