CLOSURE

Phase 2 of R.H. Johnson parking lot begins next week

Posted

Work in the R.H. Johnson parking lot will move into Phase 2 on Sept. 28 as contractors finish the area around the library and move to the lot around the pickleball courts, Men’s Club and Auto-Restoration Club.

The library reopening is just waiting on cooperative weather to complete paving and the final striping of the completed parking lot. A final reopening date will be announced as soon as it is determined on the Rec Centers’ social media pages.

Just as with Phase 1, the second phase of the parking lot resurfacing will start with milling the existing asphalt and prepping for the new pavement. However, based on what is found during the milling process, soil stabilization may be required.

If that is the case, the work will take a bit longer so the base can be stabilized before new asphalt is poured. Rain and other weather issues also can delay the completion dates.

As of now, the schedule has a tentative reopening date of Oct. 16. Phase 2 includes closure of the Sands Pickleball Courts, Men’s Club, the ARC Club, and the driveways between pickleball and the library; as well as along the west side of the Sports Pavilion.

A map of the affected area can be found at suncitywest.com/capitalprojects. The Sports Pavilion will retain regular hours. Please use the driveway near the Par 4 course and enter through the north side, near Memo’s.
