On June 6 one of a construction team entered our area of Sun City West and proceeded to install this portion of fiber-to-the-home network as introduced in a carefully crafted letter sent to homeowners in the affected area some weeks ago. This team turned into a virtual wrecking ball when they reached my yard.
First, they cut my water line. No one of them was courteous enough to ring my doorbell to advise of the issue but spent the rest of the day standing around this humongous hole in the ground shaking their heads as to what to do next.
Not knowing the cause of the loss of water in the house I finally approached them to ask just what was happening and how long was I going to be without water. They assured me there was no need to worry, the water would be turned back on by the end of the day. At 5 p.m. two of them rang my doorbell to advise the repair was “beyond our ability to fix” and a plumber would be here sometime this evening. The end result was on one the hottest days of the year I was without water until 7 p.m.
During the time these men were contemplating what to do, one of them for some unknown reason proceeded to remove a nearby piece of yard art. This item is one of 16 throughout the front and back yards. They are called “wind sculptures” and were purchased several years ago at a gallery in Sedona. These pieces are considered “art” and are extremely expensive and require a specific type of installation. When the man jerked it out of the ground, that separated it from the underground mounting system it was attached to. When I complained and tried to explain the problem one of the men grabbed the piece and jammed it into the ground. End of problem.
Two telephone calls to “customer service” of this company have zero results and have left me totally frustrated. Although the ladies I spoke with on each call expressed much empathy and assured prompt attention, nothing!
Just because this is a big company and I am a disabled 86-year-old widow does not mean it’s OK to run roughshod and cause damage to my property and simply walk away. I understand and respect these men are doing a difficult job in terrible conditions, but again, that does not condone what has happened here. Their letter clearly states “everything will be put back in original positions.” The art piece should not have been removed in the first place; there was no reason to do so as it was several feet away from the digging at the water line site. The underground mounting system for the piece removed should still be exactly where it was; unless the men dug it up along with all the other digging they did.
That system, consisting of a steel rod about two feet long with the bottom half encased in a cement sleeve, must be located and the piece re-attached where it is! This is the only way to properly install and it should have been done immediately.
Given the lack of response to this matter, I have to wonder about the future and the attention given to high speed Internet and digital phone services customers and any issues that may come up. So far the track record is not good.
Please restore my front yard as promised and do me the courtesy of a follow-up to assure a proper job.
