Getting to know the artists of Sun City

Georgia Feiste has been painting since 2012, taking classes at Artists by the Lake Club in pastels, acrylics and oils as a snowbird. When she returned to her long-time home in Nebraska each year, she self-taught using a variety of resources and often worked on commissions for friends and family. This year, during the COVID crisis, Ms. Feiste has again been taking online classes from an artist in the United Kingdom whose specialty is realism in painting, whether it be portraits, animals or landscapes.

As a certified life coach and retired corporate administrator, Ms. Feiste knows the value of living a life of joy, created by the life choices individuals make. Pursuing her life-long dream of being an artist allows her to bring richness to her life, and share that feeling and knowledge with others. Her paintings depict the beauty of life, fulfilling her belief in the “beauty and innocence of being.”

Ms. Feiste has won several awards at the Sun City Annual Juried Art Show and Palo Verde Art Show, and is a juried member of Vanguard Art Group in the West Valley. Her latest series of paintings was drawn from her two months in Ecuador in 2019.

Now that Ms. Feiste has moved to Sun City permanently, she will be teaching beginning painting to seniors who have not painted for a very long time, or would like to learn. She has a creative ability to share what she has learned and what she knows from her education and her many hours spent in her new studio.

Ms. Feiste is the current vice-president of the Artists by the Lake Club, located on the second floor of the Lakeview Recreation Center, 10626 Thunderbird Blvd. The art room is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily starting Sept. 1 for members only. Social distancing and masks are worn at all times in the art room. To join the club email debdahlinart@yahoo.com or call 315-591-650. Visit artistsbythelake.com.

Artists by the Lake Club hosts a fine art sale of current members’ artwork Oct. 1-31 at WHAM Art Center, 16560 Dysart Road, Surprise. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and there is an open house for the show 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.

Editor’s note: Deb Dahlin is president of Artist by the Lake.
