Garcia: Open centers, let people make choices

Posted

This is in regards to Mary Pitzer’s letter (“Cases keep rising, what is the problem?” Sun City West Independent, Feb. 17, 2021).

I have lived in Sun City West since 2001 and have been paying the rec center fee during that duration and have never used the facilities due to my choice. The rec centers should all be open and, as Mary stated, if they feel there is a issue of COVID-19 residents should make reservations to control the numbers.

The rec centers have been closed for most of 2020, though I just paid for my dues with an increase from last year. I have not used the facilities for 20 years, and when I started paying for them they were $201 per year, and now they are $497 per year. If there is more than one person on the deed, you pay an additional $497. I understand that there should be a rec center fee, but when it is not even open for a long period of time, the fee should not go up the following year.

The rec centers need to reopen for the residents, so that they can use these facilities to get exercise and to keep their state of mind healthy. If you do not want to submit yourself to the rec centers, then do not go to them, as I do. Please open them for all of the other residents of Sun City West.

Thank you, Mary, for addressing this issue.
