Feess: Sen. Sinema has spoken; now she must get job done on voter rights bill

Posted

Dear Sen. Sinema: I am respectfully writing to you with regard to the implications of your stated position on two issues, the filibuster rule in the Senate and the proposed voting rights act.

By stating that you are in favor of the voting rights bill, you imply that such a bill is necessary given the various attempts to limit voting right.

You have also stated that the filibuster rule in the Senate is necessary for the Senate to be a truly deliberative body. The implication is that you believe that a truly necessary voting rights bill can be achieved within the confines of the current Senate rules.

Surely you must see that the burden is now on you. Perhaps the voting rights bill, which has been proposed, could be rewritten. Take the lead senator. Get the right bill with enough Republican support to pass. You have staked out this task for yourself.
