Get a glimpse into the ocean’s greatest depths — and the fascinating creatures that live there — with two leading marine biologists, Diva Amon and David Gruber.

Join the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts for its next virtual National Geographic Live event, “Mysterious Seas,” 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 30 and learn more about these recently explored areas of Earth.

Deep-sea biologist Diva Amon participates in research expeditions around the world. She studies the weird and wonderful animals that live in previously unknown deep-sea habitats and the impact humans have on them. Ms. Amon is a 2020 National Geographic Emerging Explorer, a Scientific Associate at the Natural History Museum in London, and a Director and Founder of SpeSeas.

Marine biologist David Gruber searches the oceans for bioluminescent marine species that produce their own light. He designs delicate tools for studying and interacting with them. He also strives to develop technology that connects to and protects marine life. He is currently working on a project that listens to and translates the communication of sperm whales. Mr. Gruber is a professor of biology and environmental science at City University of New York. He is also a research associate at the American Museum of Natural History.

Through stories and conversation, Ms. Amon and Mr. Gruber will shine a light on this dark, cold and mysterious world. The 60-minute virtual event will include short videos, and a live, moderated conversation about the challenges marine scientists face and their most recent experiences. There will also be opportunities for audience questions and answers.

Tickets for the March 30 livestream program are $20. Only one ticket per household is needed for viewing. Call the Webb Center Box Office at 928-684-6624 or visit dewpac.org to reserve tickets and for a schedule of upcoming events. There is a $5 virtual program delivery charge per ticket whether purchased by phone or online.

The National Geographic Live Speaker Series brings premium storytelling and visually stunning imagery to audiences with first-hand accounts of science, adventure, and discovery told by world-class explorers who inspire change in the world.
