Auto club shows off ‘toy’ collection

Members of the Automotive Restoration Club cruised into the parking lot of the Sundome Plaza Oct. 7, to show off their “toys.”

“It is always a great day when the ARC cars show up at the Sundome Plaza,” stated Laurie Van Roekel, Sundome Plaza liaison. “We appreciate the support ARC give us. The store owners and shoppers always enjoy seeing these classic cars.”

Approximately 65 classic cars were on display for spectators to enjoy. From Mustangs to Corvettes, and everywhere in between, ARC members showed off their pride and joys.

Many of these cars and their owners have special stories behind them. One car there is a 1953 Mercury Monterey convertible owned by Jay Finlay. The special story is that Finlay was given this car in 1959 from her parents for her high school graduation and has had it ever since.

“The car has 336,000 miles on it, which is only approximately 5,000 miles per year. It’s just getting broken in,” according to Finlay.

The 2023 ARC Car Show “Dream Car” was also there. This red 2011 Chevy Camaro RS convertible, with only 28K miles on it, is an automatic, black top and interior, with a V6 engine putting out 305HP. Next year will be the 11th anniversary of the show, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11. Raffle tickets are on sale now in the ARC building. Tickets are $20 each or six for $100.
