The Sun City National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Agua Fria Chapter, was honored at the chapter’s February virtual meeting with a program presentation by Evan Kobley, the 2020-21 Arizona state president of the Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.).

Evan is a 10th grader at Notre Dame Prep High School in Scottsdale and is a Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) junior, a member of the Veterans Heritage Project and an NDP hockey and lacrosse player.

Evan’s state project “Celebrating our Symphony” covers key topics history, healing and hope. The history aspect of his state project was inspired by his great-great-grandfather, Arthur Judson, an artist’s manager who managed both the Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. A video created by author James Doering featuring his bibliography, “The Great Orchestrator,” about Arthur Judson’s life and accomplishments, was shared virtually with the DAR chapter.

As the state president, Evan hopes to help “educate, enrich and inspire” Arizona communities to support the Phoenix Symphony by building audiences through programs such as B-Sharp Wellness Project and community outreach initiatives. He hopes to spread enthusiasm by encouraging others to attend and donate to orchestras in their area.

To cover his healing topic, another video was shown of the Phoenix Symphony giving back to the community by playing for Alzheimer’s patients in local health care facilities. Reactions of patients and their family members to their music showed how music has healing qualities.

National Society DAR president general Denise Doring VanBuren, via another video, thanked Evan for his gift to the NSDAR to be used for the restoration project of the DAR Constitution Hall (the original home of the National Symphony Orchestra), for celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday, for his enthusiasm and contributions toward educating people about music and for leading the young members of the Arizona C.A.R. societies.

The final video was about many Arizona C.A.R. members thanking all their first responder heroes - active military and veterans, health care workers, fireman and policeman. Evan encourages people to attend a local symphony orchestra event with a military or front line hero to increase audiences for the symphony.
