Wilson: Let’s celebrate the change of seasons in Sun City

Posted

As we near the end of October there are many things to celebrate.

Our brutally, hot weather is behind us, which those of you who spent the summer here are greatly relieved. We did have a monsoon season this summer, which caused us to be humid as well as hot, but that also has  come to an end. We are still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and although numbers in Arizona show COVID-19 is still here, we do not have a mask mandate at Recreation Centers of Sun City. We hope our residents follow safety guidelines and get vaccinated as long as your health allows and get the third shot when it is time.

Our second edition of “Sun City in Focus” was launched in August with many positive comments. The Communication Through Technology Committee has done a lot of hard work to bring you this virtual production and I hope you have taken the time to view it. Another edition will be coming soon.

Our concerts at the Sun Bowl began Sept. 26. There is nothing better than sitting under the stars at the Sun Bowl enjoying a good musical show. Bring your lawn chairs and join us for those free concerts. Remember there are several food trucks available before the program so you can get a sandwich, Kettle Korn or an ice cream treat to enjoy. Please make sure you bring your RCSC photo card as you will need it to attend these concerts. Come and enjoy a relaxing evening with your neighbors.

Our winter residents are starting to return and our club rooms are once again beginning to fill with club members. Hopefully our Canadian friends will be able to return this year as we missed them last year. Many of the craft clubs are already busily working on items in anticipation for our Fall Festival this year. That festival is planned for the Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving so it’s a great time to start your Christmas Shopping.

Our winter residents will also be ready to get back on the golf courses in Sun City. The nice weather will be appreciated so the golfers will be able to comfortably golf in the afternoon. Keep in mind that we will have some days of different courses being closed so maintenance can be done.

The RCSC Board of Directors are back and are working after their summer break. RCSC standing committees started meeting again at the first of September. We have candidates running for the RCSC board. There are two candidate forums planned and both will be at Sundial. They are 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1 and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3. You are invited and encouraged to attend.

It is easy to get excited for our next eight months of wonderful weather and spending time with all of our winter friends. Those eight months are the reason a lot of you probably moved to Sun City. Let’s hope that our pandemic numbers improve and we can get back to enjoying life and friends in Sun City.

Editor’s Note: Sue Wilson is Recreation Centers of Sun City board president for 2021.
