Velmer "Val" A Croteau

Velmer “Val” Croteau, of Sun City, AZ, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022, at the age of 87. Cherished friend of Rita Whitney; devoted son of the late Maurice and Ethel Croteau; loving father of Daniel (Mary) Croteau, Ann (Charles) Groomes, Sherri (Ray) Carney, Kevin (Pam) Croteau, Dennis (Zelda) Croteau; stepfather to Kurt Thomas, Scott Thomas, Charles Shelters, Mark Croteau; treasured grandfather of 18; great-grandfather of 10; dearest brother of Barbara Thomas, and Kerry Croteau. Val retired from Pontiac Motor Division, Pontiac Michigan, where he worked for 30 years; starting as a scheduling clerk, progressing through the ranks as a manufacturing supervisor, and completing his career in the Transportation Department. He was a man of faith, and a proud member of the St. Joachim and Saint Anne Parish, Sun City. He was very active in the church throughout his life serving as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Val loved most sports, including watersports and fishing, and enjoyed bowling. However, golf was his favorite for many years. He also loved a great card game and enjoyed an occasional visit to a casino. Val was a wonderful friend, dearly loved by many, and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved late wife Anna Croteau, stepdaughters Michelle Shelters, Diana Thomas, son-in-law Alan Ritter, and his brother Eugene Croteau. A private memorial celebration will be held in Michigan later. Memorial donations may be made in Val’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
