DANCING

Posted

Rhonda Dean is a new member of the Tip Top Dancers and is taking jazz classes twice a week at the Marinette center. She is originally from Louisville, Kentucky, but has lived in Phoenix most of her life before moving to Sun City.

Ms. Dean has always loved to dance and was a pom dancer in high school for two years. She studied ballet for eight months with the late Kelly Brown. Since moving to Sun City, she has enjoyed line dancing classes when she wasn't working.

Ms. Dean joined the Tip Top dancers in January because she missed line dancing and it was the only dance club open at the time. She enjoys the jazz class and says that her instructor, Dallas Dickens, is excellent and the other dancers in her class are so nice and friendly.

In addition to line dancing in Sun City, Ms. Dean had the opportunity of being chosen as a participant for Sun City’s Dancing with the Stars. She had so much fun and realized she missed performance dance. Ms. Dean placed second in the competition, which surprised her because she really had not had much prior dance experience.

Prior to retiring in May of 2020, due to the pandemic, Ms. Dean worked two jobs. Her full-time job was a notary signing agent and her part-time job was as a therapeutic harpist, playing at the cancer treatment centers while patients were being infused.

Ms. Dean considers herself a snowbird as she tries to get away from Sun City for the summers now that she is retired. When not dancing, her hobbies include gardening, knitting, exercise and playing the harp and piano.

Although the Tip Top dancers welcome new dancers to the club (with or without prior dance experience), there is a waitlist for some of the classes at this time due to limited class size as a result of the pandemic.
