Svendsen: Board members attack McAdam in Sun City meeting

Posted

From my observation of the “contentious” Recreation Centers of Sun City board meeting on June 24, I was shocked and dismayed at the way Sue Wilson and Dale Lehrer spoke to Karen McAdam.

In short, I feel they publicly humiliated themselves and dishonored RCSC in a joint attack on McAdam over a “perceived” conflict of interest after she raised questions about pickleball courts and their availability during the Mountain View renovation. I am embarrassed I did not stand up for her. I am shocked that board members all sat in shocked or uncomfortable silence as the attack raged for an uncomfortable while.

What I saw was motivation for all us RCSC members to push back and force all members of the board to vacate membership on the board while a new board steps in to “right a sinking ship.” What I suggest is a “recall of ‘em all” petition. I volunteer to chair the committee and to coordinate volunteers to solicit signatures.

How many of us would it take to force a recall? I have the rag lying around somewhere that is titled RCSC Rules and Regulations. It is pages upon pages that are, first, far too many for all us responsible members and, second, arcane and idiotic. I have no doubt that somewhere in the rules and regulations is “removal of officers.” We shall follow their rules.

Their combined and altogether bullying and catty behavior can be ignored no longer. The rest of them, by their silence, were complicit.

Since I have exceeded the number of words for this letter, I ask that it be printed in full and that my phone number and email be published with this letter. Thank you.
