Sun City summer schedules stay mostly normal

No meeting in July, August for most agencies

Posted

Despite missing up to two months worth of board and committee meetings, most Sun City agencies plan to maintain their summers scheduled with no meetings.

One exception is the Condo Owners Association of Sun City. The group will conduct a July meeting since it has not met for four months. The COA board will meet 1 p.m. Monday, July 13 in the meeting room, 11132 W. California Ave., Youngtown. The meeting will be for board members and staff only, it will not be open to the public, according to Jerry Walczak, COA board president.

“We have been keeping in touch through emails, phone and the office, although we have not had any ‘sit down’ meetings,” he stated in an email. “We kind of stand around and discuss events, issues and problems.”

During the July meeting face masks will be required and board members and staff will be spread around the room to maintain social distancing, Mr. Walczak explained.

The main agenda topics will be a possible reopening of the office in September and what can be done to improve service until then, he added.

The COA is an advisory group to the 386 condo associations in the community.

Unlike other agencies in Sun City, the Sun City Fire District Board of Directors do not take a meeting break duringt he summer, and this year will be no different, according to Ron Deadman, Sun City fire chief.

The district board conducts workshop meetings 9:30 a.m. the third Tuesday of each month and its regular business meeting 9:30 a.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month, both at the district administrative office, 18602 N. 99th Ave.

“Masks are recommended and limited seating (10-12 people) due to social distancing requirements,” Mr. Deadman explained..

The board will continue to conduct its meeting through the Zoom conference app. Call 623-972-2321.

Other Sun City agencies will take their summer meeting breaks as usual.

“At this time, the board will go on summer hiatus as normal — no meetings in July and August,” Joelyn Higgins, Recreation Centers of Sun City communications and marketing coordinator, stated in an email.

The board will resume its meetings in September.

Consistent with its usual practice, the Sun City Home Owners Association board will have no meetings in July and August, according to Jim Hunter, SCHOA board president. In addition, all non-essential committee meetings are off until September.

“It is our hope that we can resume normal open meetings in September, but that will all be dependent on state and federal guidelines regarding the on-going pandemic,” Mr. Hunter stated in an email. “We started having face-to-face meetings with homeowners in the office today (June 15) by appointment only and with social distancing and face mask requirements.”

At this time, there are no plans to conduct meetings through the Zoom app, he added.

“We continue to take calls, emails and web input from the community,” he stated. “There has been a significant increase in the number of reported CC&R violations in May; our Compliance Department continues to respond to all concerns with CC&Rs.”

The Sun City Community Assistance Network board does not normally meet during the summer unless something comes up that requires a decision, and hat will be the case again this year, according to Hugh Duncan, Sun City CAN board president.

“This year, because we did not have meetings in April and May, we had a meeting in June,” Mr. Duncan stated. “The meeting was an ‘in person meeting’ with everyone wearing masks and seated in a circle six feet apart from each other.”

CAN board meetings are expected to resume in September.

The COA has been conducted round table and other meeting through the Zoom app, and they have really taken off, according to Mr. Walczak.

“We have two workshops scheduled on Zoom for June 17 and another in July,” he stated. “We have been conducting many ‘listening posts’ over the phone the past several months and through email and it seems to be working well. I think they really enjoy it this way because they do not have to come to the office for an answer.”
