Sun City PRIDES to plant memorial trees

2 ceremonies due to pandemic

Posted

Every year the Sun City PRIDES remember past members by planting a tree in their honor in conjunction with the annual Arbor Day activities.

This year past members, relatives, and other Sun City residents will be honored 10 a.m. and noon Thursday, Feb. 11. There are two ceremonies because of COVID-19 restrictions. Attendees will be required to wear face masks and socially distance when possible.

Coordinated by PRIDES President Ronn Enzweiler, 10 drought-tolerant trees will be planted with the support of the Maricopa County Department of Transportation. Tree planting will be conducted in the area of West Peoria and North 108th avenues.

In attendance will be invited local appointed and elected officials, and family members representing loved ones being remembered. At the 10 a.m. ceremony a memorial tree will be planted for the PRIDES’ founding member Carol Howland. Other former members and close family members include Carl Buckalew; Steve Fribley, Jr.; Carol Geier; and Hazel Haas. During the noon ceremony, trees will be planted to memorialize Harold Knipe, James Koopman, Robert Pulkingham, Anthony Soblewski and Jerry Sherman.

The public is invited to attend and participate in the ceremony and tree planting. Call Mr. Enzweiler at 480-225-8231.
