Sun City Community Theater preps for new season

While temperature reminds residents it is mid-summer in Sun City, members of Sun City Community Theater are already preparing for the fall and the 2022-23 season of theater and club camaraderie.
The first play is “Don’t Talk to the Actors,” by Tom Dudzick and directed by Joyce Wood. When his play is optioned for the big money, ego-driven world of Broadway, a fledgling playwright and his fiancé are suddenly swept up in the whirlwind of New York’s theater scene. Theatrical nightmares ensue as the zany cast and crew resort to manipulation and outrageously bad behavior, in a desperate attempt to come out on top.
Performance dates are Oct. 21-30. This is the show that was postponed last season due to COVID concerns.
In January 2023, the Players presents “The Curious Savage,” by John Patrick and directed by Jim McConnell. Mrs. Savage has been left ten million dollars by her husband and wants to make beneficial use of it. Her stepchildren have her committed to a sanatorium hoping she will “come to her senses.” There she meets various social misfits. Thankfully, virtues of kindness and affection are not entirely lost in a world of greed and dishonesty.
Performance dates are Jan. 13-22. Auditions dates will be announced soon and will be open to all Sun City residents who are also Sun City Players Club members.
The third play for this season is “Old Hams,” by Robert Rinfret and directed by Herb Hyland. Imagine a retirement community populated by singers, dancers, comedians and actors. They are “Old Hams” for sure. It’s almost like a Sun City neighborhood.
Performance dates are March 17-26. Audition dates will be promoted and are open to all Sun City residents who are also Sun City Players Club members.
All performances take place at Mountain View Recreation Center, 9749 N. 107th Ave. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinee shows are at 2 p.m.
Online season ticket sales will commence Aug. 1 at suncityplayerscommunitytheater.org. Tickets for the season of all three shows are $40. Individual show tickets will be available online for $15 each beginning Sept. 19.
