Sun City Community Assistance Network officials are seeking people willing to become a benefits assistance counselor.

Volunteers who serve as benefits assistance counselors help low-income residents find and apply for benefits that they might not be aware of.  For example, food stamps, utility discounts, transportation assistance and others. They also receive extensive training in Medicare and Medicaid programs and help people navigate Medicare plan choices.

Five days of Medicare training with Area Agency on Aging is required as is a fingerprint check for a level one fingerprint clearance card.

Once training is complete, the candidate will “shadow,” or work alongside, a current benefits assistance counselor until they are comfortable working alone.

For further information or to apply, call Lynn Rode, CAN executive director, at 623-933-7530.

The CAN office is located at 10195 W. Coggins Drive in Sun City.
