RCSC to host holiday celebration in Sun City

At Sundial due to lake project

Posted

Celebrate the season with neighbors, family and friends while helping a community organization at the Annual Sun City Holiday Celebration.

The event is scheduled 3-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9. The celebration this year moved to the Sundial Center, 14801 N. 103rd Ave., due to the Viewpoint Lake project.

There will be games in addition to the traditional Amazing Duck Race, which will be livestreamed into the Sundial auditorium with the actual race happening at the Riverview Golf Course, 16401 N. Del Webb Blvd. Attendees can win pies playing Reindeer Yahtzee or try their hand at Tic-Tac-Mistle Toe. The Mini-Golf Ho-Ho-Hole-in-One contest is also scheduled (players must use putters provided) and there will be gift basket raffles valued at more than $200 each.

The money tree also returns. Attendees’ donations decorate the lighted tree and one winner will take home not only the tree but all the money decorations.

Proceeds from the Sun City Holiday Celebration benefit the Sun City Foundation, which assist those less fortunate in the community with their annual property assessments so they can continue to enjoy the recreational and social activities provided. This annual celebration is Recreation Centers of Sun City officials’ way of saying “thanks” to the community and provides an opportunity for residents to give back to the community.

Tickets for the duck race, known as Duck Bucks, can be purchased prior to the event at the Cardholder Services office at Lakeview Center, 10626 W. Thunderbird Blvd., all RCSC facilities attendant stations, bowling centers and golf course pro shops. Duck Bucks cost a $1 each and the winners do not need to be present.

Ticket booths will open at 3 p.m. on the day of the event so everyone will have the opportunity to purchase tickets for all games, including the Duck Race.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos taken on attendees’ cameras, tablets or smartphones.

Gourmet food trucks will be on-site for dining. Coffee and cocoa will be available for purchase along with free cupcakes. The night concludes with a lighted golf car parade, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Sundial parking lot. Entry registration for the parade must be completed at the Sundial Events and Entertainment office by Thursday, Dec. 8. Call 623-561-4680.
