The Arizona P.E.O. Chapter BT in Sun City volunteered to help with Ben’s Bells, a nonprofit art project.
Ben’s Bells focuses on the creation of ceramic hanging works-of-art, which are created by the hands of many. By the time one bell set is completed, a multitude of individuals have been involved in the process. Ben’s Bells are not for sale. They are hung randomly throughout the community for people to find and inspire them to “believe in the power of kindness.”
Ben’s Bells just celebrated their 20th anniversary, with studios in Tucson and Phoenix.
BT Chapter participated more than seven years ago at the Phoenix Studio. A suggestion was made that this chapter once again volunteer to make these bells. Pat Lackey, Chapter BT, a long-time volunteer with Ben’s Bells, hosted several workshops at her home.
The components of the bells were glazed, using a variety of colors, and they were fired in a ceramic kiln to mature the glaze. The two workshops were held for the assembling of the bells by Chapter BT sisters. Not only was this a time of creativity but it provided summer socialization for the chapter.
Chapter sisters were able to take the bells they created to spread the message of Ben’s Bells: kindness for all.
