Flute a la Carte presents a “Musical Potpourri” 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15 at 23205 N. Toro Court, featuring flutist Lauren Erickson.

Ms. Erickson, owner of Erickson Flute & Ensemble LLC, has been a semi-professional flautist for more than 30 years. She has performed as a featured soloist and in ensembles, including professionally in the trios Expressive Interlude and Kids Take Note. In 2002, she paired with DL Turner for Angelic Harp and Flute, performing at numerous private functions and corporate events.

She has recorded on joint ventures including “Creation,” “My Music and Me,” where she wrote her own original flute parts, and “Harpestry,” a wedding CD with harpist Donna Novack. She had an active flute studio for many years and is the former director of the New Horizons Band of Canton and the Hobsons Bay City Band of Australia.

Ms. Erickson has also been dedicated to the promotion of music appreciation among her community through various fraternal and national organizations. She is an active member of several professional music organizations, including the National Flute Association and Sigma Alpha Iota, a women’s national music fraternity. She has served in committee chair capacities, as master of ceremonies and as performer of music throughout the Metro-Detroit area. She was also a member of Plymouth First United Methodist Church where she actively performed in the music ministry.

Ms. Erickson moved to Arizona in 2020 and resides full time in Sun City West with her husband, Keith. She wanted to help people feel connected during the pandemic so she started providing driveway concerts all around Sun City West once a month, beginning in August. People came in golf cars, rode their bikes, brought chairs, wore masks and socially distanced while they listened to live music. She plays her flute into a microphone connected to a battery powered speaker and plays to backtracks of all kinds including classical, jazz, patriotic, pop and Celtic.

“Musical Potpourri” is the final performance now that Sun City West is beginning to open back up.

Ms. Erickson is interested in collaborating with other musicians in Sun City West. Visit “Flute a la Carte” on facebook or email flutealacarte@gmail.com.

Bring a chair. There will treats provided. Those attending can drop off gym shoes for Ms. Erickson’s music fundraiser.
