Fleurquin: Reader hopes residents stop contributing to panhandlers in Sun City

Posted

In response to Rita Tillery’s article (“Giving to panhandlers does not fix problems,” Sun City Independent, Aug. 18, 2021), I sincerely hope the residents of Sun City will respond positively to her suggestion, come together and stop throwing cash out car windows to the panhandlers.

Instead, donate to organizations prepared to offer constructive assistance to the homeless.

I personally don’t want to see my money go for drugs or booze. I hope anyone reading this letter feels the same way. Don’t perpetuate the problem by contributing to it. Contribute to the solution! Stop giving directly to the homeless panhandlers.

We, the residents of Sun City, need to pull together in resolving this growing problem. Youngtown and Mike LaVault have done an outstanding job in their community. However, Sun City is unincorporated, thus we need assistance from the county, the support of the community and the cooperation of our residents to help resolve this issue.

Final thought — do not give money to the panhandlers; please be a part of the solution not the problem!
