Eye Institute in Sun City, Sun City West offers peek of surgery

Procedure to be live streamed

Residents can get a look at what is involved in upper eyelid surgery during a special presentation next month.

The community is invited to watch in real time as a patient undergoes upper eyelid surgery that will be live streamed by the Arizona Eye Institute and Cosmetic Laser Center Friday, May 7. Emilio M. Justo, MD, institute founder and medical director, will perform the outpatient surgery at his fully Medicare-accredited ambulatory surgery center and stream the live event noon-1 p.m. at AZEyeInstitute.com/Gala. Guests can watch from the comfort of their home, on any computer, phone tablet or other device. The event will be entirely virtual.

“The community is always interested to learn about eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, a procedure growing in popularity that can have a prominent positive impact on your life due to dramatic quality of life enhancements,” Dr. Justo said. “We wanted to offer everyone a chance to see how safe and quick this procedure is for everyone. I use a CO2 laser to eliminate excess skin that is blocking vision and causing a more tired, aged appearance, which in the end restores vision, confidence and a more youthful appearance.”

Upper eyelid surgery is becoming more popular as more people take advantage of the fact that it is often authorized through insurance plans due to the dramatic peripheral vision improvement.

“Upper eyelid surgery is becoming a necessary surgery, because of the dramatic impact it can have on vision,” Dr. Justo said. “The loss of peripheral vision by easy to remove droopy skin can impact your ability to enjoy favorite activities, ease headaches caused as you strain your forehead to lift your eyelids to see better and can even impact independence by limiting safe driving ability, especially at night.”

Dr. Justo has been practicing at the Arizona Eye Institute more than 32 years and is hosting the virtual event as part of his annual anniversary celebration. The video will be posted on the site after the virtual event takes place for additional views.
