Castlemans provide in-home care

Posted

Name: Vicki Castleman.

Age: Turned 53 Aug. 27.

Business name: Home Instead, 14621 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City.

Town/neighborhood: Sun City and Peoria.

Personal background highlights: I’m originally from Omaha, Nebraska and lived there the first 50 years of my life. Married with two grown sons who still live in Omaha. I’m a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. Moving to open a business in Sun City seemed like fate since my own grandfather lived here in the 1970s. It is a blessing to serve the community that meant so much to my own grandparents, whom I visited here years ago!

Professional background highlights: I worked for the corporate organization for nearly 12 years before my husband and I decided to purchase our own franchise. Prior to that, I worked in the financial/credit card industry.

What I do: I’m the co-owner but serve as the operational general manager for the business.

What I like most about doing business here: We love Sun City! It is such a wonderful retirement community that people look forward to moving to. There is a lot of pride in this community and we love to be able to support its values and mission for the over 55 age group.

Previous occupation and why I left: Left my senior leadership role at Home Instead Corporate to buy my own franchise.

Changes I’d like to see in this area: Continued vigilance regarding safety for seniors and professional resources about aging that they can trust.

What am I promoting: Our business provides in-home care for seniors to keep them safe and happy in their desired living arrangement. We provide companionship, home helper services, respite for family, transportation, personal care and dementia care.

What I’m excited about and why: I’m excited to partner with other committed business owners in the area to support each other’s vision and goals. We all work hard each day and we should help lift each other up as much as possible!

Favorite community cause and why: Education for the community on aging issues! So much misinformation can be presented to “confuse” or take advantage of our aging population. I’m committed to sharing education on multiple topics that are of value and assistance to this demographic!

When and why I started my business/employment here: August of 2020.

Where I came from and why I left: Omaha, Nebraska to open this franchise.

My family: Husband, Scott, two Sons, Connor and Parker.

My interest and hobbies: We love playing pickleball and hiking!

People who inspire me and how: My mother was a caregiver for Home Instead when she retired in the late-1990s! That is how I was introduced to Home Instead and the whole concept has changed my professional direction and life. She is our inspiration for our Care Pro of the Year, which we celebrate in her honor.

My guiding philosophy: Relationships are built on trust; focus on the relationship over the task at hand.

My advice to today’s youth: Focus on your communication skills. Everyone likes to work with people that can talk and write clearly. This is a forever life skill that should not be underestimated! Look people in the eye, shake their hand and keep your word!
